The Sun is Always Shining

Visual artist Claudia Biçen conveys a moving depiction of how we construct the self, through ink-and-pencil portraits and the voice of psychologist Dr Daniel Brown.

Each month, we show you a short film that’s moved us beyond the day – meaningful stories that inspire us to pause, think and feel.

Western psychology tells us that we’re not born with a sense of self; it’s constructed. Scientific research has gone on to say that all human experience – sight, sound and time – is constructed too.

Harvard clinical psychologist and Tibetan Buddhist scholar Dr Daniel Brown discusses the nature of awareness and self. Meanwhile, visual artist Claudia Biçen uses a series of ink-and-pencil portraits of the psychologist to construct his self and let him disappear.
