Each month, we show you a short film that’s moved us beyond the day – meaningful stories that inspire us to pause, think and feel. 

This short film by Ted Simpson (Instagram @ted__simpson) was created for the #WeAreNature campaign, a grassroots movement to persuade English-language dictionaries to change their definition of ‘nature’ to include humans.

Spearheaded by Lawyers for Nature and House of Hackney, they hope that changing the definition will positively impact our connection and protection of the natural world.

The film script is a poetic amalgamation of renewed definitions for nature, gathered from a wide group of naturalists, writers and environmentalists. Together, their definitions echo a resounding sense that we are an integral part of nature.

The film features intimate scenes from local Cornish hedgerows, shots donated by Katie Moore, Tom Kirkman and Josh Guyan, and moments captured from Ted’s own garden.
